All I really want is a bunch of desktops with unique configs but KDE don't give me this anymore. I put an activity pager on the left and a desktop pager on the right (I could do with a single desktop and just swing the activities for the unique setups). KDE has been good to me since 3.8 or 4.1 but there are a few PROBLEMS. The activity pager seems to be the desktop pager so with fewer desktops the activities pager goes south or vanishes altogether.
Every square micron on a PANEL is million-dollar realestate and should be totally configurable, the clock-date annunciator has an extra line it for nothing and is most unwieldy to set up efficiently on vertical panels.
The desktop is a place for business, Amiga used to very aptly call it the workbench where just like in a cockpit your life depends on your knowlege and use of that space. There may be a place for art on it for the duration of a job or mission but after that it's gotta revert to a clean workbench. That's how I see it.

BTW, when I leave my computer runing I leave a setup with an image such as this for a background but NO real panels
