Question Internet connection indication ikon

Ubuntu 10.04.2 does not seem to have an ikon to indicate a live connection to the Internet, some earlier versions did (I think) have one near the clock display. I am having to site my router in the garage roof to be adjacent to the filtered master socket there and will not be able to monitor the indicator lights for proper operation. Is there and applet or something that can be installed or a bit of code that can be added to a file to do this?

By the way, what do you mean under 'live Internet connection' ? It may be, say, PPTP, PPPoE or just Ethernet.

Hi! Lexus45,
Thanks for quick reply, much appreciated.

My Belkin N router indicator lamp, which I want to replicate with an ikon on my desktop,is labelled "Wired" which comes on when my Ethernet connection to the computer is OK (slightly dickey socket there). I am not using the wireless option available on the router. I do know that the connection type is PPPoA if that is important. Looking back I seem to remember that 9.10 had the indication but I might be wrong.

C.

Hi folks!

Deafening silence since my last post, can I be allowed a bump?

C.
