I guess if ALSA sets max loudness and for me it's too low then I am undone, am I not?

Hi: any known way to boost an audio signal beyond max volume as set by alsamixer? No matter what the source is, (it could be the audio component of a video-clip perhaps) at some instant it must reach the (internal) audio amplifier needed to drive the headphones. The case is that for some sources the headphones output level is too low. I guess if ALSA sets max loudness and for me it's too low then I am undone, am I not?

Slackware now includes Pulse Audio (it was added for Bluetooth compatibility). Open the Pulse Audio Control and check its settings.

pulseaudio is a valid option.

nevertheless, in alsamixer, make sure that ALL relevant playback channels are set to 100%!

also, many media players allow for raising volume over 100%, i know for a fact vlc and mpv do.

I have Slackware 14.1 installed. I went here https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Sof...er/FirstSteps/ but
$ pulseaudio
gives command not found, so it is not installed. I did a full installation. Locate gives:
Code:
bill@darkstar:/extra/STORE2/Nonsoft/libros/history$ locate -i pulseaudio
locate: warning: database /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db' is more than 8 days old
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/manager/PulseAudioProfile.pyo
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/manager/PulseAudioProfile.pyc
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/manager/PulseAudioProfile.py
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/applet/PulseAudio.py
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/applet/PulseAudio.pyc
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/plugins/applet/PulseAudio.pyo
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/main/PulseAudioUtils.py
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/main/PulseAudioUtils.pyo
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/blueman/main/PulseAudioUtils.pyc
/usr/share/apps/cmake/modules/FindPulseAudio.cmake
bill@darkstar:/extra/STORE2/Nonsoft/libros/history$
I search in the PACKAGES.TXT files with the string 'pulseaudio' does not find anything. Could you give me a cue?

Perhaps I should download the Slackbuilds script?
