Arrow help regarding home directory


hi i haved used a mv command to move a folder from the roots desktop to user desktop
mv -r foldername /root/desktop/ /home/user/desktop/

the command worked fine but now iam not able to access my home directory

how to access the user desktop
has the mv command over written the directory with that of roots
else is there some other problem

the permissions and ownerships will be completely wrong, the files will still be owned by root, not the end user. try "chown -R user:usergroup /home/user/desktop" and you should be ok from that perspective at least.
