harddrives assigned in /dev change on boot up

I'm having an issue where I can't mount drives with fstab because the drives seem to be randomly assigned in /dev everytime I reboot.

I go to gparted get /dev/sdd1 for example and mount it with /etc/fstab
then reboot and mount fails on start up.

i'm stumped on this one, any ideas?

Setting up a new install of elementary os btw

You can use the UUID for the partition to mount the drive. Then it doesn't matter if the device name changes. Here is a short tutorial.
