gnome GUI crashed ..... Please help


HI,

My Gnome GUI crashed somehow, and getting following message from terminal "Server Authorization Directory is set to /var/gdm but doesnot exist. Please correct GDM configureation and restart GDM"

I can still use terminals by pressing function keys, but GUI terminal showing same. Please help...

Hi,

run "mkdir /var/gdm" in one of the terminals, that should fix the problem...

I have checked whether var/gdm folder is there.. Folder is there and permision set for gdm .

Ok, you might try deleting the directory, and trying to restart gdm (it should output the same error) then make the directory and try starting it again.
Another thing you might try is reinstalling gdm using your distro's package manager.
If it still doesn't work, look into the ~/.xsession-errors files to see if there is any more info about the error.
