I've just updated to 3.18 an I already spotted 4 issues. http://s13.postimg.org/bc5538y6u/Scr...0_10_51_56.jpg
1. Ugly nautilus sidebar.
2. Uggly, small top right corner menu. No volumes in sidebar.
3. When you create a new document from template, you don't get to rename it immediately.
4. Similar is with creating folders, except now you have a dialog to type name of new folder. I thought Gnome was supposed to be minimalistic, why this dialog is needed then.
I'm creating this thread to share my frustration with other users who hate Gnome more with every new update. I really like Gnome shell, but what the devs are doing is crazy. The number 3. feature was always on any desktop environment, Windows XP had it, and probably even older software.
So renaming a folder acts more like other file managers, like Thunar and PCManFM? Yeah I hate that too. I much preferred the edit folder name in place.
I have been an advocate of GNOME 3, I hated it at first and really warmed up to it, but the devs seem as if they are really determined to push away their user base.
I hope someone creates a patch for this. By the way, quoting gnome website:
Quote:
Folder creation has been improved, as has file and folder renaming. These operations now use dialogs and popovers to provide feedback and a clearer workflow. (This change was introduced following user testing results.)
Ye, now when you create a new empty document from template, you will find yourself searching the directory you are in, instead of naming the new file.
Who knows how many "improvements" await in the future. This year I jumped from Debian Wheezy gnome (I don't remember version) to Arch Linux Gnome (probably 3.16 or 3.17). one of the most annoying improvements was lack of "delete" in context menu that bypassed trash (now I have to open terminal and type rm ), or for example when you are in home directory, you can't go up to /home which is utterly stupid. Shell itself was better back then, you could zoom a window by scrolling on it. The only nice thing was that it was less buggy, but really gnome is worse and worse with every release.
Now there's another issue. When you have 2 nautilus windows opened, sometimes for no reason you end up with the same location in each window. And NO PROGRESS BAR WHEN COPYING FILES That's enough, gnome sucks big time. I really have to find something else and just get used to traditional desktop. Also notice how system monitor's processes tab was improved, is it half empty or half full? I would make a screenshot to show it, but whenever I try to run gnome-screenshot, my system crashes and need to log out.
