Question Expanding Desktop Size Over Maximum Monitor Resolution

Hi,

How can I expand my KDE desktop size more than maximum LCD resolution on a laptop PC?

OS: CentOS 5.6
HW: Sony Vaio cw13fx, geforce gt210, LCD:1366x768

I tried to change desktop resolution by editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /home/<username>/.kde/share/config/kcmrandrrc files, but the screen size automatically have changed to default (maximum) size of 1366x768.

I want to set desktop resolution bigger than that. How can I do that?

Any Idea?

Thanks

That is not possible at the moment. The ability to have a virtual resolution larger than the physical resolution was removed from drivers a couple of years back when xrandr 1.2 was implemented in the drivers. There was some discussion about putting this functionality back in, but it doesn't seem to have happened yet.

Hello,

I remember that this feature once was very useful.

With Fvwm2 you can try to configure a similar behavior. Unfortunately I don't remember how to achieve this (probably a 3x3 desktop).

Thank you for your replies.

I found that adding "Virtual 2048 1600" option in xorg.conf file, expands desktop size bigger than physical monitor resolution. This worked on my laptop after updating vga driver from nvidia.com.

Thanks
