Dual Monitor/extra login

Hi,

I'm using Mint 20.2 on an ASUSTEK M5A99FX Mobo, AMD FX-8320 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 8400 graphics card. 2 monitors are plugged in, one DVI, one HDMI.

Here is the issue: If there is one user logged in, everything is fine and the monitors are all recognized. But, if another user logs in using the "switch user" button to log in, the HDMI monitor goes blank, and the DVI monitor's display is a limited frame within the monitor's screen.

With only one person logged in, system information reports the following:
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 3] vendor: eVga.com. driver: nvidia
v: 340.108 bus ID: 04:00.0 chip ID: 10de:10c3
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.11 driver: nvidia
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,nouveau,vesa compositor: marco
resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz, 1920x1080~60Hz

When someone extra logs in and gets the single truncated screen, their system information reports this:
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 3] vendor: eVga.com. driver: nvidia
v: 340.108 bus ID: 04:00.0 chip ID: 10de:10c3
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.11 driver: nvidia
unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, nouveau, vesa compositor: marco resolution: 1280x1024~77Hz
OpenGL: renderer: N/A v: N/A direct render: N/A

Any ideas on what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Since you are using NVidia's proprietary driver, what you have is probably a question for those who are expert with that driver. Presumably the best place for that most likely is some forum on https://www.nvidia.com/. I have that same GPU, but I make do with FOSS with my GeForce 8400 GS Rev. 2.

Possibly, switching to a different DE instead of whichever you normally use could make a difference, so should be worth trying.
