Is there some panel/taskbar app that does not rely on DE libs?
Everything pretty much relies on something, but you might be interested in checking out `dzen2` for a cool, scriptable toolbar, and `dmenu` (a cool, scriptable application launcher / finder) if you want something (else) to launch apps and programs from.
Both are very tiny, requiring very few libs (basically Xlib and optionally Xinerama).
Dzen2 can be made to look really nice!

PS - for setting wallpaper, I am still having issues with this :/ but two common ways are by using `feh` or `xsetroot` -- if you manage to get a real actual wallpaper using xsetroot, do tell us how you did it!! It is giving me a hellish time. And feh is very nice for displaying pictures, but when used to put up wallpaper, clicking ESCAPE on the desktop shuts off the wallpaper -- blah!

I care. And it's exactly that kind of attitude that is to be blamed for the bloatware of today. If you as a user are fine with my application occupying 5GB on your hard disk.. I'll be damned if I'm going to cut into my TV-watching-hours in order to make it occupy less.. or use your processor/memory more efficiently.
