CentOS 8 (performance issue with new install)
I installed CentOS 8 yesterday and every operation and click of the mouse requires a delay of 2 - 5 seconds before it activates. Have I done something wrong or do I need to: 1)Spend money on a new computer or 2)Go to a different distro or 3)Resolve the problem with my installation?
I've been running CentOS 6 on this Dell 5150 for several years and I love it - but the end is approaching for #6 and so it's about time to update. My hardware specs: RAM = 2.8 Gb
Processor = Intel 2 X 3.4 GHz
HDD = 500 Gb
The CentOS 8 distro lists minimum requirements as 2 gigs of RAM and 2 GHz processor.
I just installed a new 500 Gb HDD (Western Digital) with a spindle speed of 5400 RPM for the new CentOS 8 - as opposed to the old drive that's running at 7200. Might that cause the delay problem?
I'm strongly considering abandoning CentOS to go with a different distro such as Ubuntu (though I've become somewhat "brand loyal" over the years. What say you? Any/all advice is appreciated.
