BitTorrent and KTorrent beginner

Hello!
I decided to try BitTorrent and installed ktorrent. However, I have no idea how BitTorrent and KTorrent work, so I'm asking for help. I have configured my router to forward ports 6881 and 4444 (I don't really know what they're for, I just found them in the Settings window) to my computer, but the first torrent link I tried is still "Stalled", as KTorrent says.
Can this be a configuration problem?
Thank you.

Before downloading .torrent files, you should make sure it has active seeders. Use websites like http://www.torrentz.com/, note the number of seeders, the maximum the no. of seeders the faster and reliable will be the download

You may have selected a torrent with 0 seeds. In ktorrent look if any seeder is connected. Sometimes ktorrent needs some time to start download, it depends on your network

Unlike http and ftp downloads, torrent files are not on permanent servers. The files are stored on other users computers. The client (ktorrent) connects to different users sharing the same file and downloads from them.

Another good torrent program you may want to try is Deluge. It has many more features than ktorrent and is very easy to configure
