Today I just stumbled across a distribution I hadn't come across named "aLinux". I generally like looking at new distro's to see what they possibly do differently to others.
Recently there have been a lot of Linux's which have been focused on a particular task or sets of tasks and they bundle it all together neatly for you so you dont have to install and configure all the packages yourself.
Anyways back to my original topic here is a quote from the website
Quote:
aLinux™ is a Professional Linux Operating System already designed to surpass both Microsoft Windows XP/Vista and Apple Mac OS X

So by surpassing do they mean "copy" Windows XP? I mean come on! When I looked at the screenshots of the default theme they include for KDE I was disgusted to see they had pretty much ripped off Windows XP.
Where has the "originality" gone? This is just doing exactly what Microsoft do by copying someone else's idea and just stamping their logo on it. Even the aLinux logo looks like it was derived from the Windows XP logo.
I understand that you want to create a user base from people that are moving from Windows to the Linux world and the easiest way to do that is to have similarities with their current operating system to make the transition easier but really do you need to go to the lengths of completely ripping off something else?

While sporting an even more visually stunning Graphical User Interface then our competitors, we still are able to maintain a high level of sophistication, experienced Linux users, have come to appreciate

This should be rephrased to say while copying the interface of our competitors we do everything any debian derivative does but we make it look like windows.
Well there is my rant ... Peace
