Hi,

Buy or borrow Michael Jang's Red Hat Certified Engineer Linux Study Guide (5th Edition). It covers all you need to know, including which distro to use if you do not have access to Red Hat Enterprise 5.X.

Red Hat's web site also has some information you might want to check out: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

Depending on your location you might be able to take a test exam before you do the real one (both test and real do cost money). I would suggest you contact Red Hat for details on locations and prices.

Hope this helps.

The Plan,....

Please try the following it might be helpful. It might take you up to 4 months to complete with no social life. I call it THE PLAN!!!
1a. Buy this book,.. RHCE Red Hat Certified Engineer Linux Study Guide (Exam RH302) (Certification Press) (Paperback)
~ Michael Jang (Author) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/007...pf_rd_i=507846

1b. Red HatŪ Certified Technician & Engineer (RHCT and RHCE) Training Guide and Administrator's Reference [Paperback]
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/161...pf_rd_i=507846

2. Download and install CentOS,.. Install VMware workstation on it,.. If you have a enough memory and hard disk space run 2 Virtual Machines(CentOS) on it using that to practice the lab from the book above trust me you will be fine.

3. Get a book on Scripting,. You will need it. Also try to get your hands on any of this http://www.linuxcbt.com/products_lin...ng_edition.php

4. Get your hands on these videos,.. Go through them at least twice.
http://www.vtc.com/products/red_hat_..._tutorials.htm
http://www.linuxcbt.com/products_lin...-5_edition.php

With all these you should be able to defend the cert that you have,..If you can really master all these,... experience will be acquired in no time.

PM me if you need further help.

Hi,

Fedora and CentOS are recommended by Michael Jang as good substitutes, although CentOS is preferred (Fedora can be too cutting edge compared to RedHat 5.X).

Hope this helps.

CentOS is the closest you can get to the real thing(Red Hat),.. for me it is the same thing without the logo.
Good luck
