Lightbulb Oracle and MySQL Database Certifications

Hi Folks! What's up?

I am planning to do an Oracle Database Certification. (Please note that I am already SCSA for Solaris 10 OS and ITIL V3 certified.) Yes, I love to keep myself updated and upgraded!

I am familiar with Oracle 9i and some PL/SQL. I have good foundation and understanding of SQL as I have used it in several DB driven web applications and am also good at MySQL.

This page lists the Oracle DB certifications:

http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_...?page_id=143#1

This page lists the Oracle MySQL certifications:

http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_...ge?page_id=331

I am not sure which one I should go in first for. I do not intend to be a DBA. I am more interested in development. Will an "Associate" level certification do or I should comlpete a "Proficient" certification too.

Keeping current industry demand in mind, what do you suggest?

Regards,
Dev.

Hello,

Surely I am not an Oracle or SQL database guy now, but I was once in SQL/PL-SQL programming in initial phase of my career.
I'm sure here must be some capable database people to hit the bull's eye for you.

As far as my take on this point goes, certifications have started growing futile to me. I work extensively with some really skilled Oracle and SQL database guys as a part of the Data Center team we support, and as per them, the certs will help you a bit in just getting an interview call, rest of the matter is what you do in real time.

In fact, I have only got 1 cert so far, RHCSA, that too 4 years before just by getting carry forward by friends and college pressure. Here I need to work extensively on Solaris and AIX systems, for which I only had to sit with experts, read, listen, playing around, breaking things and then again learn .

And if anyways you opt for a cert, good luck to you.

Of course, that is one of the reasons why I would like to have certifications shown on my CV. They mention in JD (Job Descriptions) "XYZ Certified is desirable and will be preferred".

Thanks! Could you please close my other thread titled "it is a personality thing"?

All done - btw, it's more efficient to simply report your own thread and request the closure. I nearly missed this thread!
