Linspire/Freespire - a Linux Windows Cross???

Hello

I am furthing my quest to find the right Linux operating system. Freespire cought my attention (after some directing). It advertises being a crossover type linux system. I thoguht this would be nice so I can phase out the windows and not go cold turkey, get all gittery and end up running back to windows because i am lost and confused.... ok thats a bit extream. This way I could phase out my programs instead of having a pile of useless windows programs.

How much is freespire like windows? Is it just they layout that is like windows or is it the programing to. If I have to install emulators to run windows things ill just stick with Kubuntu. Otherwise ive only had kubuntu a week and its not going well due to my microsoft dependencies lol, so it wont be a big deal if i have to redo my OS again.

Biggest question I guess.. In what way in FREESPIRE like windows? Can I run some XP things?

Freespire is a version of Linux--just like Kubuntu. It may LOOK like Windows but it runs like Linux.

I was not impressed by Freespire. I would not install on either a SCSI or SATA system--rather surprising for something released just recently. I would stick with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mepis, or PCLinuxOS

Any Linux distro will run WINE (or the commercial version: CrossOver Office) to run some--but not all--Windows SW.

I am running Freespire on my laptop it is somewhat like windows but I would say it is more Linux than Windows, The distro installs very easily, just make sure you have the partition ready with a FAT32 or reiserfs, I would recommend once you get it installed you get registered with the CNR and download their hardware compatibility tool, it runs and checks out your system and gives a good report on whats working and whats not only it sends the report back to them, I think when it gets to that point I would disable the net temporarily unless you don't care (like me) but it is pretty good to use and learn more about what you have.
I like the CNR for basic stuff you end up getting Flash, Java, Adobe,Firefox,Thunderbird, picasa just to name a few that allow you to basically view content and surf the net. I think for someone that is just coming from Windows to Linux it is a great start and from there if you want to get braver and learn more about updating stuff and navigating it is all there.
