I have Red Hat 8.0 I downloaded the drivers for my HPDESKJET 3820, I untarred the tar file ., and followed the instructions. I had to ./configure then type make and make install. However when i type ./configure the console returns and errors which says compiler cc not found???? There was alot of talk on the HP site about GhostScript??? Do any one know what could be wrong???
You don't have the compiler installed. Install the compilers from your RedHat 8.0 cd. By the way, I bought an HP deskjet 3820 and it took me a long time to install it. If you run into some other snags with it I'll be glad to help.

Thanks alot of your reply, do you know the name of the specific compiler i need to install and on what cd i can find it out of the 5 Red Hat 8.0 cd?????? and tell me what were some of the problems you ran into when trying to install your HP DESKJET 3820????
I have an HP 3820 running under Slackware 8.1. This is how I set mine up using KDE, click on control panel, system, printing manager. Remove lp and click on add/printer/class. This will bring up the add printer wizard. Under backend selection, select local printer. click on next. Under local port selection, select how your printer is connected( parallel, serial, or usb). click next. Under printer model selection, in the left hand column, choose hp. In the right hand column, choose copyjet color printer. click next. click test (print's test page). click ok when done printing. click next. name your printer. click next. and finally, click finish.
I used the CopyJet color printer driver because the deskjet driver would only print in black and white.
I can't say this will definately work for you on RH8.0.
