Linux LAN Messaging Tools ?

I want to chat like we do in windows networks using the WinPopop and netsend utilities but in a Linux Network.

I am unable to find any relevant utilities for the same.

One i got was Jabber but it is pretty difficult from my standards.

So, do you have any alternatives ?
