Problems with Postfix+fetchmail Slackware 10

Hello from a new subscriber. I've learned alot from these forums but having trouble isolating this info.

Can anyone point me to some useful links describing how to setup a single user, cable connected system so that i can use postfix and fetchmail to check and send my email.

I've googled my heart out and so far nothing I've found has helped. Everything I've found has either been for dial-up or multi-user. Just a link or two would really be appreciated.

And yes I know that I can use direct POP access in several mail programs but what's the fun in that !

Thank you in advance.

I feel your pain; I went through a similar Google hunt for Postfix and Fetchmail tutorials, and there seems to be a lack of good ones. However, I eventually decided that Postfix and fetchmail for a single user was simply overkill. I settled on using smtppush.py instead of Postfix/Sendmail and getmail instead of fetchmail. Both are Python programs, and are much easier to configure.

See these articles:

Building and Installing Postfix on Slackware 9.1.

O'Reilly Postfix tutorial

Mutt and the Single User - google cache of a Gentoo forum article, since the original url seems to be down; the instructions can be easily adapted to any other distro.

SSMTP + Getmail + Procmail + Bogofilter + Spamassassin + Mutt - a pretty good tutorial for single user systems, using easy substitutes for Postfix and Fetchmail

Thanks spurious, I'll give those links a try.

Thing is I had my mail system set up fine a year or so ago (Mandrake 9.1) and used tutorials I found on the net. They seem to have disappeared or I haven't found the right combination of keywords.

Thanks for the help and I'll let you know how it turns out.
