Window XP wont recognize cable modem

Hi,
I just upgraded my system to Mandrake 10.1 official. Now I have two systems - Window XP and Mandrake 10.1 installed on same machine with dual boot LILO. Both systems start without any problems. However Window XP does not recognize the cable modem. While XP is running I do not see any blinking light of data transfer or PC connection. When I tried to ipconfig I get an error saying media disconnected. I tried disconnecting pwer supply and coaxial cable connection and reconnecting it, The ethernet card from device manager shows it is working fine. Whenever I boot into Mandrake, I can connect to internet without any problem.
I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled both systems same problem. I think the issue is that ethernet card does not activate when window XP boots. Is there any way of fixing this issue. Is there any way of activating ethernet connection at boot loader level or even when the computer is turned on
Thanks

go into your network properties and see if the lan connection is disabled. if so, enable it. media disconnected does not mean that XP "doesn't recognize your modem" it usually means that it doesn't think theres a cable plugged in to your nic. I would start by checking your network connection properties, then maybe try a new network cable.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in General since it's about a problem with an unspeakable abomination of an operating system, and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Thank you very much for the reply. I actually figured out it was my dual boot LILO. I changed it to grub and both of the systems seem to be working flawlessly.
