Question why does apple support opendarwin?

it says on the opendarwin site that "the goal of opendarwin is to create an open-source OS that's binary-compatible with OSX".

so why does apple "support" it?

Moved: This question has nothing to do with Linux on a technical level at all. Please place your threads in the most appropiate forum, if its not about Linux and its not a technical question, most likely it belongs here, in General.

The idea is about the same as Linux, see what improvements appear over time. Darwin is Mac's OS kernel -- the counterpart of today's Linux 2.6.x
