Where is the data for each pixel stored?

I don't understand how the process that takes code and uses that code to determine which pixels to light up, and which pixels to not light up..

however, I am very much curious where the data for each pixel is stored..

For example, I realize that within this text box is a bunch of text, and each letter within this text is composed of multiple pixels..

If I wanted to, say, search through all the text within this message pixel by pixel, instead of char by char, how might I do that?

IBM helps clear up some of what I asked. (The part about reading text from pixels.. Ex. y = y, y,y,y)

They're all y, and they're all different. I would like to make the distinction between the two by using only the representation of each pixel that "y" is described by(But where do you find that representation?)

Its stored in video memory 0xB800:0000 in text mode and 0xA000:0000 in graphics mode (unless you are using EGA or CGA in which case it is at 0xB800:0)

oh and, if you mean the little images for the character, they are ether stored in the OS or the character rom.
