I wasnt sure where to post this but i figured either here or in newbies. But i have been using Xandros for four months now. Am liking it more and more and have started to do things with it which am quite impressed about (Still cant install a Burning program though would use windows much less if i could)
But anyway what is peoples opinions of the best Linux P2P program.
I have Limewire installed simply because its the best you can get for windows and you get the linux version free with my windows licence.
But as spyware is (i believe) no longer an issue as it doesnt exist on Linux therefore i was wondering which is the best Linux P2P program.
depends on what network you want to connect to. personally i like giFT as it runs as a daemon (so its light(ish) and i can use a GUI that runs in a GUI mode or in a text mode to use it), its supposed to be able to connect to fasttract (kazaa network), openft (its own), and gnutella (eh..). but there are other networks, and so other programs to use.
i use edonkey command line client and ed2k gui. it uses edonkey and overnet networks. amule is nice, too (for edonkey network). then thereis mldonkey, which works on allmost any network and has a small web server for gui interface.
Take a look at Azureus. (azureus.sourceforge.net)
Get that and the safepeer plugin, and you'll be sorted.
BitTorrent is by far the best P2P system, as it means that files get fairly distributed (no leeching) and you don't need to seed (or share) your entire file collection.
Also, all Linux distros are distributed by BitTorrent, it being a fast and efficient way of transferring large files with minimum network resources.
I use giFT and mldonkey, mldonkey is a large, RAM loving beast compared to all of the others, but it is very good.
it'll connect to overnet, edonkey, fasttrack, gnutella, gnutella2 and bittorrent(last time I tried it it didn't work) it, also is a separated core, gui system but has a web and telnet interface built into the core, I think it's unnecessary and dumb but I have used it from time to time.
