This isn't actually true, we have a list of job types that we need people for but just because you can work, nothing specific mind you just able to work, doesn't mean we will let you in the country. You also have to show, and it can take quite a few years, that you are a "reasonable person" (I'm still trying to figure out what they mean by this) to obtain citizenship. I know a few educated, and decent if I may say so myself, people who waited 5 years to gain permanent residency status and you need that before you can obtain citizenship.

Very interesting indeed.

Supposing i go to Australia as a tourist... can i start working there before having my academic qualifications acknowleged, and use the fact that i work and contribute to the society to show that i am a "reasonable person", ( not a felon, etc ) to gain residency, and then after that gaining citizenship...?

In Australia? In the past you'd fit right in, since after all it was mainly a penal colony .

@Jeebizz, that was good, I'll pay that one.

@Alexvader. No you cannot work if you are here on a tourist Visa. You must have a Work Visa. I used to know all the details (Visa numbers etc) but alot of it has changed with the change in government.

If you turn up here with your CV while your on a tourist Visa they will put you on the first available flight home because they will say your intention is to gain work under false pretences. I suggested doing the tourist Visa way first because, and I am being honestly frank here, Australia isn't to everyones liking. If you like it after seeing the place and interacting with the people, and checking the papers for the type of work you wish to look for, then come back on a work Visa.

If you come out initially on a Work Visa and don't like it her because there isn't the work etce, and it does happen, you will be sorry you even thought about it.

My recommendation is first read immi then do alot of research into what you would like to do, ask questions and then make your mind up what the best way for you would be.

Your point being? Seriously they help to keep some of the undesirable elements away. Now all we need to do is teach Aragog to eat the Cain Toads.

Fine, but I have an almost debilitating fear of arachnids! I don't think I could stay in the same hotel room if I spotted just ONE of these thingies there. Bleh!

LOL. "Toss another spider on the barbie, cobber!"
Better than chicken. More people can have a leg each.
Bet they're tastier than witchetty grubs?

Well technically they are good eating, since they contain lots of protein. Also spiders are known to be on the menu, particularly in Cambodia. Still, I'd have to be pretty hungry and all out of other options before I would even consider snacking on these bad boys. Andrew Zimmern on the other hand would of course just dig in without any thought. His show though is pretty cool.

-edit

Also possibly another reason to move to another country, the cuisine.

That would work, but also you would have to be British or at least in any territory under British Jurisdiction where said law would be breached.
