KDE is great because you can customize it's look and feel to make it fit your needs entirely. Gnome just feels weird to run, and I havn't tried any other desktops yet.

There you go... I couldn't agree more. I must have said it before, but I'll say it again. KDE is great mainly (if not entirely) because of its customizability. There are so many options you can choose from, you can literally make your desktop look and work exactly the way you like it to.

This is one reason I stick with KDE as my main DE. GNOME is good, but I struggle to make it work the way that I want because of missing features and the the emphasis on simplicity. I have mentioned this in another thread: What is the point of simplicity when it makes it harder for other people to do stuff.

You hit the nail right on the head, my friend!

I've tried GNOME. It works as long as you do simple tasks every now and then, or as long as you're fine with what it has to offer. Some of us aren't happy that way.

Fluxbox is a fine, configurable WM... I like its fluxbox-generate_menu thing. You can have your own menu while also autogenerating from existing apps.

I am current running Slack with Fluxbox and xfm as file manager. Feels light, even Firefox 1.5 is very responsive unlike in KDE.
