Waiting for the kettle to boil, and wondering whether or not I should bother looking up infundibulum. I like it so does that make me an infundibulator? Might I have infundibulosis?? Have I been infundibulized???

Experimenting with LEDs on a small breadboard...putting them in series/parallel, seeing which ones light up (if any), etc. Yes I'm a complete n00b when it comes to electronics

That reminds me that I was thinking about reviving my experimentation with microcontrollers.

I guess I will be spending a long time trying to get an AVR cross-compiler and avrdude working in Arch now.

Actually, I'm powering these little "experiments" with an Arduino! I've built a small button circuit independent of the microcontroller that is simply drawing power from the "5V" pin (and another connected to Gnd of course ).

As for the Arduino itself (or, more accurately, its AVR microcontroller), I've written quite a few little programs for it, but all they do is blink LEDs and/or send serial data to/from the computer. So nothing really exciting yet. What I would really like to do next is see if I can experiment with pulse width modulation for sound. I've got a little speaker I ripped out from a portable TV I have (by accident, LOL ), so if I could solder a couple of leads to the terminals on that, and leave the other ends open, I might be able to use it! Dunno if the little Arduino can provide enough voltage for that, though. If not, I suppose I could get a little piezo speaker (or whatever those things are called).

In unrelated news: I found a nice little DOS-based media player online because I have nothing better to do. It runs beautifully in DOSBox at 100k cycles (for me at least). Bonus: it's open-source!
