What's a good, legal way to download music and movies?

Hi,

I'm looking for a good music and movie download website:

Here is my criteria:

- Legal
- Offer a choice of cheap and more expensive plans (I'm hoping plans would be cheaper than pay-as-you-go options and I plan to use it fairly frequently)
- Download rather than stream
- Web-based
- Available in the UK

Ideally I would like one site that does both, but would be happy with one site for music and another for movies.

Is there such a service? Any recommendations?

Thanks

Sorry another requirement would be I want "commercial" (if that's the right word) music and movies; what you would expect to find in a shop on CD and DVD.

Well, the obvious recommendations would be iTunes and Amazon MP3.

iTunes isn't web-based and doesn't it only stream?

Amazon doesn't provide a subscription/plan does it? It looks like a pay-as-you-go service.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You're wrong about it only streaming. When you buy something on iTunes, you're buying a download.

Your are correct about the rest.

Are the iTunes services only available through iTunes via Wine?

MPD and MPlayer can play them just fine. As can any other Linux-based player that links against Faad2.
