transmitting data to a PC

My friend would like to copy files from my PC to his. He has an old laptop running Win98, and I has both Win98 and Linux.

I would like to know if there is a way to setup a serial connection on either linux or Win98 to his so I dont need to burn CD's.
If so, how?
