Top ten list of web browsers order by popularity among Linux users?

Hi:

There are many web browsers (aka navigators) out there, able to be run under linux. Examples are Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey. Where can I get a list of the top ten navigators, sorted by popularity among linux users?

In particular, is SeaMonkey far behind Firefox in popularity? And why, if that is the case? Regards.

Browser stats are very hard to get right (thanks to user agent switching, etc.) and I dont know of any 'web wide' stats on linux browsers. But you could have a look at the 2010 brwoser poll here-

If the list referenced by the link in post #2 were representative of the preferences of Linux users, then what is a likely explanation for the overwhelming majority of FF users? I have it to myself that it is not necessarily a matter of intrinsic superiority on the part of FF.

Maybe that FF is a perfectly fine browser that comes standard on most distros? Personally, I've got FF done up with extensions so it does a lot of things I like. I see no reason to move to another browser.

Firefox is default on most distros, its open source, has a lot of exentsions, and is cross platform.

All the other 'major' browsers are either closed source (Chrome, Opera) and/or have connections to data mining companies and are playing games with licencing (Chromium, Chrome).

BTW, I used firefox and opera mostly.

Your post has open my eyes.

If I were to assign a weight to each of the four causes you gave, being open source would have the least one, because it minds developers alone, mostly, although redistribution is important, but just to the degree people make legal copies of close source.

The fact that it comes by default in most distros I'd assign the max weight, followed closely for its being cross-platform.
