I think THIS is amusing.

Please take this in the spirit of light-heartedness in which it was intended

I never say "Google is your friend" but often do mention Google searches as I often find answers to the questions users ask that interest me by going to Google. When I do however I usually say something like:

"I found the following link <URL> on Google by putting in the search 'terms "term1 term2 term3'."

Often enough people don't know exactly what terms to search for in questions because it is something they're unfamiliar with. By posting the URL that seems to give some info along with the terms used one hopefully at least gives the poster a hint of where to go next if it din't solve the problem.

The fact is if you're asking for help you really shouldn't complain about the help that is provided - just indicate if it didn't solve your problem and ask a new one. If you're really annoyed by it you could always add "I've already looked on google and through these forums and didn't find the answer" in your original post.

Intelligent and non-lazy n00bs will attempt to RTFM and search first, though. Don't reward the lazy. By pointing them at the search when appropriate you're helping them become better users.

The lazy do not deserve help.

True dat But, maybe we should all just say something like "Google is your friend, try searching for "term1" + "Term2"" as a friendlier way.....?

I dont see why you should be "anti-google".
It's just that sometimes its easier to google on a error msg or a problem
instead of posting , waiting for a answer from someone who dosent even know that tries to help you by _googling him/herself_.

I do that all the time, I try to help people by troubleshooting . The LQ users dont always know the answer themself but try to help. And when they decide to tackle the subject they enter 2 words in google to find what the user was asking for... No wonder I would like to reply:

"I found the answer by googling on these two words , here is the fix.
Next time try googling on the error message you got or searching the forum first before posting. Your question might have been answered several times "

But the people who gives out answers with "google : word word2 , second link there is your answer" is a bit lame , atleast they could link you directly to the site or give you a quote from the site.

This is not anti-gogole but anti-people-who-can't-answer.
Google is your friend!

btw : I always see "How to ask a question" FAQ ... maybe there should be a "How to answer a question" FAQ?

Well I can tell you how your comment will be not important.

If you disagree with 27307SB then your comment is not important.

(okay I know I know, I've teased 27307SB enough)

Did you even understand what i said before? the way you would help someone is helpfull, I totally think that the way you do it, is A ok. What I am referring to are the people who do this: "Hey, >nickname< Google is your friend!" adding nothing more to the conversation then that alone.

The post before this one was an "Important" one to me. A post that stated your opinion on this matter and was well supported by examples...to bad it did not make alot of sense to me, since I sort of agree with you
