Post SysAdmin Website

Hi,

I apologize if this is the wrong place for something like this, and if so, feel free to delete this post at will.

I've been throwing the idea around about putting together a Systems Administrator site. Not just one based on Linux but all operating systems. Now that might be blashphemy to say something like that here, but anyone who works in an IT department will know where I'm coming from. I know there are already a few sites here and there that give news and howtos and tips and stuff but I've never been totally impressed with them or seen one that covers more than one OS or distro.

There's experts-exchange. But they try to get money out of you any way they can. And it's too much of a forum-type site. There's librenix and rootprompt but the exact same news is on both and it's just news headlines taken from the same sites every day.

So I'd atleast like to try making something different that would cover everything someone would run into, like I mentioned above, in a typical IT department. For example, a typical day for me might consist of using ssh to log into a linux box to use rcs to edit a squid log and then use a python script to retrieve a file that someone deleted then find out active directory doesn't want to replicate right, etc etc.

The site could have news, security alerts, tutorials, howtos, forums, and maybe even crazy sysadmin stories.

Anyways, sorry for drawing this out so long. Basically, if anyone would be interested in doing something like this, let me know by either replying with some contact info or contact me at joe@terrarum.net. I haven't started anything with this yet so anyone is welcome to be a part from the start. I'm looking for anywhere between 1-3 core people to help out.

Thanks!

That's a good idea to begin with. Sorry to say that, there already exists a lot of sites that has all the stuff releated to system administration. And moreover one can't be a master of all the OS that prevails on date. You can do a do a bit of hacking with your own GNU/Linux OS but what about M$ ?

As I mentioned in the first post, I am aware of other sites that already cover various topics of system administration though I think I can do much better than any of those. I don't think theres anything wrong with trying to start another site to do better than a first -- I think most of the web runs off of that idea.

And as for hacking on Windows.. there's a lot you can do on it than you might think. Maybe you'd get a use out of my site

There us nothing wrong by creating a new site on administration. It will be surely good for people like me to learn more from your site.

So you have got hold of the M$ source code :-)

No, not source code. I don't think systems administration deals with programming and operating system internals but day to day activity of keeping systems running smoothly. And there are a lot of tricks you can do with windows to make it run nicer and jump through some hoops for you.

That is true but don't you think that it is wise enough to know the system internals (programming). I shall be eager to learn that also.

The only thing that's not wise to do is not learn something
