Well, no, they're really for people who need dozens or hundreds of machines and are okay with the machines being virtual ones hosted offsite.

If you just want to host a LAMP server, they're only one of many options.

It is not at all like that. As I said it depends, if you have money to invest in your infra setup your infra. If you are on tight budget, you can go with cloud.
