For Gamers, many will likely consider Linux inferior, simply because some games are just almost impossible to get running under Linux. For people who rely constantly on tech support, again, Windows. For people who don't mind learning, trying something different, etc, Linux is where its at.
Personally, I find Linux far superior to Windows...
For your average Joe it's harder to learn than Windows [because your average Joe used Windows since he was born] but it does reap alot of benifits, the best on being you can feel leet everytime you boot your PC.

I think it it's a superior alternative to windows; that being said it's not windows it doesn't hold your hand and do everything for you or assume you are retarded. but if you are willing to put some work and thought into it you can make it do all sorts of things that would be difficult, expensive or imposable on windows. I don't consider myself a gamer but if you consider how many free games there are, all the decent console emulators and all the games you can play under cedega that are not supposed to work with linux because the game makers don't care enough to put out a linux version. I don't see how you can call it inferior especially since some games actually run faster in cedega then windows.
If you want to get in on all that virus, malware and twice annual reinstall fun get windows.
If you want to just plop down and surf the net without knowing or caring what makes it all tick get a mac.
If you just want to play the newest games without putting work into it get a game console
Now if you want one box that is your dvr and also lets you do regular computer stuff like web browsing on your monitor while you play goldeneye64 or use the dvr on the tv and makes your coffee before it wakes you up in the morning with your choice of music. get linux
