Stereo questiion
just curious.. if anyone knows anything about stereo recievers. My stereo reciever has i think a minor problem, whenver i adjust the volume, one of the speakers gets statiky or drops out almost completely at certain points.. is this a minor problem or a sign that perhaps the stereo is on its way out.
Spray some 'switch cleaner' (the stuff's called 'Servisol' in the UK) into the volume potentiometer (the round metal thing the plastic pole sticks out of that the volume knob goes on). It'll be good as new.
FYI. Potentiometers in a nutshell are variable resistors. There is a wiper arm that sweeps over the resistor element and over time dirt and grime build up. The noise and drop outs are casused by the wiper arm moving over this crap and cleaner should remove this build up. Depending on the design the volume control could be two pots stacked together which means you would have to remove the cover to gain access.
