Share CPU resources and memory?

Hello, I posted a while ago about sshing into my other older box (wife uses). I since have put a total of 128mb of ram in the old 400mhz beast. Now even with the ram upgrade when she plays a java/flash game it is really choppy. I was thinking, I have here my main machine as follows:
AMD64 3000+ running stock no OC
1024mb ram
AGP nvidia graphics

Now I am behind 2 routers, so I don't believe security will be an issue. Is there a way to lend out cpu cycles and a bit of memory for the older machine? Most of the stuff I do on the main machine only uses from 2/3% CPU, unless I compile of course. Can this somehow be done?

Sure, this is a routine operation for Linux. Linux uses a client/server arrangement for the display/keyboard/mouse. Get her to connect to your machine and log in. It is that simple:
On your beast, enable XDMCP by editing /etc/gdm/gdm.conf. You do run GNOME, don't you? restart gdm.

On her Linux box, stop the xserver with
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
X -query youripaddress
and she should have a gui login screen.
If she has an account on your machine, both can run there at the same time.

If you like the result, you can edit her /etc/gdm/gdm.conf to do this automatically at boot time.

The family that surfs on the same machine without fighting over it stays together...

All I can say is WOW, thanks for the info. It works. Now I have a question about sound. How can I get my main machine to serve up sound to the old? The old has a snd_cs4236 Sound module loaded for the driver on slackware.

Any ideas?

I Googled for "sound over X" and found this:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/.../msg01079.html

You might put some of that code in a script to run at boot time to make the connections. Good luck. I have not done this sound over X thing, although my students have asked for it...
