Lightbulb -=post Ur (fps) In Games=-

i just wanted to know what are the FPS out there with various cards and games...i guess this can also benefit all readers with a general impression of what runs what good/not.

Please help contribute....

Please just state what video card you have, games you play with the average frame rates (linux version of the game or using wine?), distrobutution...

Please following format so it can be nice and neat for every1 else..

Format (my stuff)
===========================================
Video Card: Radeon 64 DDR Retail VIVO
Games: Half-Life, counter-strike mod
FPS: 15-60 (AVG 25-30)
Game version: Using wine-cvs to emulate
Distribution: Mandrake Linux 8.2 - Fluxbox 1.7 + KDE 2.2.2

Im going to be honest, i dont play games in Linux, i still have to boot to windowsxp to play counter-strike... dont know if Quake3 fans are getting good frames or not in linux? if they do then i guess i can start playing quake3 from now i guess...

but i have to play a first person shooter game... hehe

1. How do I find the fps in Quake3?
2. Wouldn't a benchmark like glxgears be a good reference to include?

Libranet 2.0 w/ 2.4.16 kernel optimized for Athlon.
Using the nVidia supplied drivers optimized for Athlon.
Libranet is a sweet Debian based distro in case everyone isn't familiar with it.

Athlon 1.3GHz
384MByte PC1600 ddr memory
agp geForce2-MX200 w/ 32Meg ddr
glxgears 870 fps

Quake3 Arena, Linux native _incredible_

I don't know the fps but it's incredibly fast & smooth at 1024x768 full screen. I've pushed the resolution higher with no noticible reduction in graphics but I get flicker outside of games due to Linux not being really good at utilizing the video to it's fullest. The refresh rate falls off faster in Linux than in WinDoze with increased resolution. That's my whine for the day by the way.

Oh, and my dos partition is 22meg for xosl. There is no place for Windoze on my system since I no longer need to connect to work from home.

AMD 1.2 gig T-bird
Aopen GeForce Ti2 64ddr
384 megs of 133spec ram
40 gig ATA100 IBM Deskstar
10 Gig Maxtor
IWill K-K266-plus-R
Games in Linux: RTCW
Games in WinXP: Tribes 1, Tribes 2

In Linux (Mdk 8.1 with Ximian Gnome) I only play RTCW(non Wine install), fps 85-150 depending upon the map, how many people are in the server and how much action there is.
Res:1024x768, 32bit color.
One thing I noticed immediately...the colors and textures seem richer in Linux and the gameplay is much smoother than in Windows.

In WinXP- Tribes 1, fps 90-200 (would play Tribes 1 in Lin but everytime i touch the keyboard, it dies..seems many people have same problem)...

In WinXP- Tribes2- 50-190fps...

I could probably still get 10-20 more average FPS out if I tweaked it, but who knows I could maybe get even more.

what i meant X11...

was that it will be harder for ppl to accept linux right out of the box if they had to go out of their way to tweak...

i dont havve a problem with tweaking... bc i find it interesting just like overclocking/mods... however, i want linux to be easier for everyone: ie for the regular users... who just dobnt have time to tweak/comes home from work/school.

im still consider myself as a linux newbie... however, my expierience has been great *ONLY because i was willing to put the time and effort into learning my weak spots/knowledge about the system...

not every1 is patient...

my two cents.

i really only play rtcw and rocket arena.. on a 866 dell inspiron with 512k l2, 384mb 133mhz, geforce2 go, not using wine..

im sure i dont have the latest nvidia drivers, compiled them about 2 months ago.. i always have everything turned clear down for max preformance.. 640x480.. OUCH! yeh.. but i get bout 90 frames.. itz bout the same in wolfMP and q3..

there is not much difference from win32 and nix.. maps tend to load faster in nix.. but my thumb button causes x to crash if i hook it up as USB so i usually play in windows..

so in short, i turn everything off and my gf2 go can pump out an 'amazing' 90 framez.. win or nix..
