Never used it but that's the risk you face when users have full reign of material being shared. People tend to get mad when you steal money from them.
I don't agree. With millions of users (it was the 13th most viewed site in the world at one time), you can not deny the great promotional opportunity that megaupload could represent. I mean how much costs a tv commercial advising for example.

I personally find this terrifying. It seems if you have enough money to give to congress, you can write your own laws and have them enforced throughout the world. A non-American business is shut down and non-American citizens are arrested in New Zealand on the accusation of breaking American laws?
This is exactly the same as a company that is importing faux products. It is a crime. Why do people think it is OK to steal? What other company allows their products to be stolen and sold? No one.
I say good for DOJ. I am an honest person and I feel that crooks have run rampant over the internet. These crooks don't make a better world. They don't benefit mankind in anyway. It is not free speech to steal. Makes me sad to think that so called civilized people think it is OK to steal copyrighted works.

Blame that on the G-8 countries .
NOT in the midle east and definitely not Iran with out risk of ww3 . You could not even walk down the streets in Iran that alone a arrest.

The thing is, lots of people used Megaupload for perfectly legitimate uploading. I've kept files there myself. And Megaupload has always complied with DMCA safe harbor rules, which require copyrighted materials to be taken down after a DMCA notice is filed.
I regularly use Mediafire for holding my own materials that I need others to be able to access. This insane action is making me wonder how safe my own files are. If Mediafire is shut down the same way just because some of their users upload copyrighted works, then I lose everything I have on their servers. And I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking about this now.

How about a law taking down all the major telecom companies for facilitating everything from drug deals, murders and corporate fraud?
How about shutting down roads permanently and dismantling the auto industry because people are using cars and roads to carry out illegal activity?

That was considered in the days when the automobile was adopted by the public. The manufacturers themselves were almost held responsible by the authorities for the 'aiding' of criminals, thus giving them a means of a faster get away.
You know whats interesting, I bet most of the politicians who are in favor of SOPA and other such bills to 'stop' any sort of piracy and holding sites such as megaupload solely responsible for 'piracy', would be the very same people who have the same exact opposite logic when it comes to firearms. Interesting huh?
Anyways, as far as I'm concerned I really don't care anymore about this whole copyright nonsense. Thing is, you are told by these very people to not steal, or do anything shady, but in reality they tell you all that so they can be the ones making backroom deals. After all I wonder just how much they plunder and steal from the very artists they claim to support.
As I've said before, Anonymous is run by the gubmint. This attack will only help them pass the bill, and do nothing else. What, you think if hackers did this, this would change the gubmint's mind ? Same as "terrorism" really. Just look to whom it benefits.

I still had a few episodes of Stargate Atlantis to go so I am hopping mad...so I have found this and rumour is that it wont be long and they will be up and running again under a new name hosted in a civilised country like China or Russia. LOL
