I PAID FOR DISTROS CDS HOW MUCH WASTED !!!



I WILL NEVER TRY TO BUY ANOTHER PC JUST BECAUSE I WANNA TRY NEXT LINUX INSTALLATION.

Maybe it didn't fix everything, but at least we're all trying.
For whatever reason some people need to have more patience.
If you have that, we're still able to help you get on with Linux.
If you don't, then maybe Linux isn't for you. No one said it would.


Crashmeister, 320mb, if you're not willing to help, then refrain from making these types of remarks. It doesn't promote what Linux and the LQ community are about, it isn't constructive and way too easy to kick someone who's already there. You can regard this as a moderator warning.

It's the ancient hardware you're running it on. Linux is so bleeding edge, 3.6GHz P4's are already obsolete.

Linux, like windows, has it's place. At the moment, that place for linux is not on the desktops of most non-enthusiasts, or on the desktop of most offices (i say most, it is getting there, but slowly)
I work for an IT consulting firm and consider my self a techie. I've been using linux on and off for over 5 years. That no way makes me any sort of expert. I've decided to get back into linux after quite a long spell away and

I'm currently using the Suse 9 distro. I've got in on both laptop and a desktop. But my laptop still dual boots win2k (cause thats all my company supports, and i need MS Exchange access, VPN etc) and I have another desktop running winxp (i'll make that linux if and when they release halo for Linux )
I found the usability of Suse 9 improved since the last version i installed, and miles better than when I first started linux. But I still had to do some tinkering and I can't get my Kyro II to run with it (anyone seen my other post can help??? )

The various distros and great linux community are helping linux evolve so that one day it will rival MS for the desktop. But right now, hardware/software support, lack of standards between distros and the domination of MS are obstacles to be overcome by Linux.

What we don't need are fanboys shouting "Linux rules, MS sux, your dumb" etc... as this discourages new comers and promotes the idea of linux "elitism". We need more of the thing that this site provides, support and encouragement, for those brave, but not so informed, users who want to give another OS a try.
Sometimes I am frustrated by linux, in that if it ever becomes as usable and supported as Windows, would it have lost its appeal to tech-heads?

There's always Mac OS X i guess...
