Talking Linux Simulator for windows? (best of both worlds)

I'm learning linux now and am looking for a program that can run on my windows based laptop but displays a Linux terminal window. Probably looks something like a windows command prompt but running a _bash shell instead so that I can use my computer to look at tutorials, forums and such from this computer and at the same time practice with a terminal emulator with the ability to be mobile.

If anyone has heard of this software or a way to imbed linux under windows in such a way, I would be much appreciated to hear about it.

not sure if if helps but www.virtualbox.org has windows executables that allow you to run linux stuff inside your windows box.

You should take a look at this:

http://www.cygwin.com/

Virtualbox (www.virtualbox.org) is also good for a full blown Linux (or any other Operating System) installation within a secure "sandbox" environment.

I too use cygwin for Unixish tools in Windows. But I'm not sure I would recommend it as an initial environment to learn Linux. There are just too many compatibility issues and quirks that will complicate matters.

I'd suggest a VM environment - virtualbox, vmware, etc.

Use cygwin after you are comfortable with the basics of *nix, and then need a set of *nix tools on Windows.
