hferretluv - have you ever tried running your games on Wine or Cedega?
At this point in time, WINE is not working / running on Fedora 6, be it source code or rpm, it doesn't matter. Cedega I just heard of this month, so have not had a chance to check it out yet.
If you use a computer for what it was intended, Linux is by far the best. If you want to waste most of your day talking to Microsoft and play worthless games all night because you have no life, stay with windows.
I have to use Windows for some of my business applications. I am an OrCAD designer and while KiCAD EDA is good and does have quite a few features I still need that little "edge" provided by OrCAD. Besides, my company shelled out the "big bucks" for OrCAD so now I HAVE to use it. Same goes for Microsoft Office and Access in particular. I don't do games, so other than my business requirements I can't see much of a reason to have Windows on my computer. I have even installed a number of FOSS cross-platform applications like OpenOffice, The Gimp, NVU, Inkscape, Wings3D, Scribus, etc. on my Windows system and use them in my business....The best of both worlds!
Hey isd2301 Cadence is supported On Linux and if you check, OrCad is owned By Cadence. We have been switching over to it from Mentor Graphics. (IMHO Cadence is a piece of &^**^%% has companrd to Mentor Graphics) I guess you get what you pay for.
Yeah, I hear you courtrrb...Unfortunately Windows is (as usual) still the OS of conformance for many businesses and ours is no exception. Our so called IT guy is "LINOPHOBIC" so I can't get anywhere with him. If I even mention open source he immediatly spouts off about how "free software is just garbage written by amature hackers". I didn't hire him so I can't get rid of him so we are in the Windows trap just be conforming. Cadence=OrCAD=Windows is the mindset I'm afraid. I am personally interested in Linux support for OrCAD though. I'll look into it. Thanks
Phones can be tricky, they seem to have a lot of proprietary stuff they require. Mine has trouble working even with WinXP.
Right now, I would give almost anything to get my nokia 6225 and my Motorola V710 to inferface with my computer. I have not had a bit of luck on that either.
That's funny. My wife has one and I never could get her windoze XP and IE to connect to the router. Now on my Linux box and using then Mozilla, I just typed in the IP address and it worked right off the bat. If I hadn't had my Linux box we would have never got the router to work.
I also ran into the same problem when she got her a laptop. Linux to the rescue again.
I only use Linux, unless I'm on a M$ box. No, seriously I use any and all Linux programs that I can. Here is a small list of programs in the open source world that are life savers for me. The money it would cost to have the similar programs on M$ and they probably wouldn't even preform as well as these Linux programs.
OpenOffice
GNUcash
transcode
blue fish
quanta plus
kate
gftp
Having said that I do occasionally sneak back to the dark-side to play a few of the newer games
