Libreoffice generally much slower on Linux than on Windows

Hello,

Noticeably Libreoffice/Openoffice running on Linux is quite slow compared to Windows 10.

Libreoffice/Openoffice might be slow.

Maybe by optimizing the kernel the libreoffice/openoffice application running on Linux could go faster? What might be possibility to improve these performances? I did the test on a i7 on the same machine with win10 and ubuntu, and visibly on Windows 10, it goes smoother and faster.

I guess it would be better to stick to Latex/TeX.

Actually, maybe, Windows 10 has a better memory management. Look here for instance, in gaming, Windows 10 has better fps and games reacts better.
If you look the Windows 10 desktop, it is actually very fast.

Thanks

I haven't noticed a difference in libreoffice on Windows and Linux. All I know is that it runs better than Microsoft Office which would eventually lag from all the graphs, tables, and equations loaded into the document.

To be fair Valve took the Quake engine and broke it. There are people with 1080/1070s with good i7 cpus getting terrible fps in CSGO in Windows and Linux.

Try it on Arch-Build, Gentoo or Linux From Scratch. Binaries in distributions are built for maximum compatibility, not performance. With just a -march=native flag and a relatively conservative -O2 setting, things speed up quite a bit.

When I start a LFS build, there is an insane performance jump the minute the cross GCC is installed in the temporary toolchain in section 5.5. The make output goes from line...line...line to scrolling faster than you can read it.

well Microsoft Office is clearly much better programmed. MS office runs at speed of light compared to turtle speed of libreoffice. You can look on a file with 100 pages or a long report.
