is this a motherboard problem?

So I was trying to install WinXp on my little brother's new computer. And we had problems.

Using 3 different downloaded isos (which had worked on other computers) of WinXp, Win2k3server and Win2k, and trying these CDs on two different drivers and two different harddrives, we still could not install.

We couldn't get past the point of copying files to the harddrive, getting an error message saying the files on CD appear to be corrupt. But how can this be if we tried 3 completely different Isos, two cd roms drives, and two different harddrives? All the devices were detected on the MOBO as cable select on primary and secondary.

I can't imagine it's the RAM that's broken, or the CPU, or the videocard, or the CDROMs or the HDs or the CDs. Which leaves me with the MOBO, which appears to be working okay too.

Any ideas? tia.

I am running Slack10. This is for my little brother's computer, and he is primarily a gamer. So it's some form of m$ for him, okay?

This isn't a win vs lin debate please, I just was hoping for input on what kind of hardware problem would do such a thing.
