i'd get the most linux-compatible laptop on the market, with full-extras (max ram, etc.)... i'm not sure, but i think that would mean an IBM T series...
or maybe i'd get one of those uber-portable Sharp laptops with transmeta CPUs, also with everything maxed-out...
Since my needs are simple, the only difference I would make it to contribute to every distribution I tried.
I never lie or drink beer either.
Currently running an upgraded homebuilt. 2Ghz AMD, 512MB RAM, 400Mhz bus, 2 removable drive bays, DVD RW, ZIP 100, 3.5 and 5.25 floppies. TV card awaiting install.
If I had more money I would not be penny pinching and awaiting the system to go down when I least expect it.
I think I'd probably keep the one I have, and buy more silencing gear. I guess I'd also replace my 160 gig samsung with a newer 250gig one. If it's possible to swap the motherboard without it being likely to cause much hassles in Linux, then I guess I'd do that, get a more power efficient CPU, and put my linux and windows hard drives in seperate PCs. I'd also never worry about breaking anything. And get a couple good LCD screens, and a new CRT, and a plasma screen.
If money was no object
a computer would be the last thing on my mind
This song by moondog kind of says it all
a tropical island somewhere in the middle of nowhere

Postcard To Hawaii by Moondog
[Spoken]
Are you trying to say okole maluna?
Oh is that it?
Like bottoms up?
Yeah
Like in cheers?
Yeah
Huh, yeah okole maluna
[End spoken]
Alohhhhaaaaaa!
I turn on the TV
it messes with my head
There's too many crazies on the streets
With guns for shooting
drugs for tooting
mobile phones and high polluting cars
Seems like a waste of time to me
So sit me down at a luau,
I wanna go but i don't know how
See those palm trees a swayin'
When i get there
i'll know i'll be stayin'
If i never come back
I'll be on a beach where no-one can find me
And if i never come back
send me a postcard to Hawaii
The country life just bores me
it's full of old rock stars
The south of France is pretty much the same
All those wanna-be's and should-have-been and could-have-been contenders
Seems like a dull place to me
I wanna go where the sun always shines
and the water is blue
Fill me up with Hawaiian love
so i can send it on back to you
Back when be was a swingin thing
me never know much better
Me used to fly right past Hawaii
on my way to Jamaica
One day me wake up
when me see the hips a swayin'
And if you want to find me
it's with Hawaiian girls me are playing
Problem is : what would you do to get soooo much money.. Sell your soul to which devil ??
With great money comes great theft.

It would be the other way around for me. If money was absolutely no object, if I was a billionaire, I would still stick to what I know. I'd mass produce all the hardware that I ever thought off or wanted: tweaked or radically altered designs of game controllers, keyboards/keyboard replacements, cases, fans, hard drives and so on. That is of course after extensive prototyping.
Oh yeah, and it would have very good unix driver and utility support, and only lousy support under windows.
It's surprising that no one has yet said that if they had all the money in the world, they'd fund linux development.

Or, for that matter, support all underfunded areas of medical research, solve world hunger, freely supply everyone with a hybrid or hydrogen powered motorcar and fund the maglev train, finance world peace and offer a billion dollars for the first person to find an answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything.
But I don't think that was the idea behind this thread
