So, uhh, did you do anything of interest during this period of not watching a single event on TV or did you just sit back and bathe in your smugness?
Also, you still have a TV? Oh how they have you right where they want you! Some peoples' kids, I'll tell ya! &c, &c.
I bathed in my smugness, if you'd like more smugness I'm sure I can provide seeing as the gentleman you quoted seems to be an actual gentleman since he's not reduced himself to your level but I'm not.

It is comedy, indeed, because even a non-football fan like me knows that there is a rule which states that Manchester United fans should be born and reside in the furthest place from Manchester that is possible -- the guys on Cirrius's planet are booed for being Man U fans as they live too close...

I watched the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. I've been doing that for years.
I don't bother watching the whole game as I did before. The reason is because It takes 4+ hours to watch a 48 minute game. What annoys me most is the constant stopping of the clock after a minute or so of game play.
This process continues on and on: play football a few seconds, stop the clock, watch boring lengthy commercials. Rinse and repeat.

From that perspective, I will admit I don't enjoy when teams are in playoffs either, the normal game flow is changed due to media interference. Couple of years ago after our local baseball team had finally won the title after a lengthy drought, the local TV station re-ran that series, but they also re-ran a few prior series, one from the 70s. Obviously back then the broadcast didn't have all the overlays, advertisements, and the parks didn't have tons of ads using blue screen technology, etc. You didn't see the ball/strike/out count, any map of who was on base. You had to have been paying attention, or listen and benefit if the color guy said anything about game status which you hadn't seen.
My kids didn't sit and watch really, but they saw me watching, and they were beside their selves looking at the complete dearth of multimedia information. It was rather funny.
To add to that (off topic a bit further) as punishment, when they were young, they could not control TV from time to time or watch it on their own, but if I had it on they could sit and watch, maybe. I noticed they'd be fine with that if they liked my programming, or they'd "tolerate" it just to get a fix. So I'd put on very old movies like Gone with the Wind or Niagra. They saw the 1940s style special effects, like someone standing in front of a moving screen to simulate horse riding or car driving and they were amazed at how fake it was. They just couldn't conceive that someone would make a movie and do such a bad job. I just laughed at them not getting the points.

That's good.
I had a great time. I cooked for my family and visited with them for most of the day, then when things started to wind down I caught the end of the Superb Owl, and then wandered off to the computer for the rest of the night.
From what I saw from my car, there were a lot of people out barbecuing and visiting, too. That makes it hard for me to feel too down on the dumb game, because without any lame excuses to get together we might not, at least as far as my family goes.
