It installed beautifully initally. However, I now encounter numerous problems!
1. Now, I can not listen to CD audios!
2. I can not install updates!
3. This OS does not recognize DVDs eventhough I have a DVD burner installed!
4. It originally installed my Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum EX drivers and the sound was there. Now, I can not hear JACK!
5. It gave me the option to use an Administator's account with password only to DENY me access to removing it!
6. While you can get SIMPLE information about your hard drive, you can NOT see what is on it nor simply be able to click on it like in Windows.
Installed: Linux Red Hat
Date of installation: TODAY (less than 2 hours ago!)
With all of my problems with Windows XP Professional, I am glad I installed this USELESS crap of an OS on a different hard drive!
Im sorry to hear about your problems but I had difficulties when I first installed too. Linux is not an OS that you can just install and expect to start doing things. You have to work with it. Force yourself to learn it. I installed Mandrake on my computer and I forced myself to learn everything and Im glad I did. I configured everythign to run just like my windows machine.
What I can reccomend is go back and see what you may have changed. Did you change a sound plugin? Or the output driver? Could it have been muted?
The best advice is not to get frustrated and also, type any errors and problems into google and you wiill see that people had the same problems most likley and found the fix.
Also, if you looking for a distribution that is like the windows environment, I would reccoment SuSE 9. It will mount your DVD Drive, your Windows drives and give you more of a Windows like expierence.

Ah, I feel your pain, for I too once had a similiar problem, but it was with my new car. Everything seemed fine with it at first, I could get in the car and get out of the car (installed) but, alast it would not take me anywhere. I screamed "take me home car" but it would not move. I moved from the backseat to the passenger seat but never did it take me home. Then after looking and searching I found the manual, it stated I must turn the car on, I inserted the key and it started. Hooray, now "take me home" i screamed, but still the car sat. I continued looking in this thing they call the manual and asking people passing by until I found something about gears. Surely this will get me home in my new car, I put the car in gear and shouted "take me home", and to my suprise the car moved, but only in a straight line. What a piece of crap I thought. Then I found this round wheel thing in front of me, my first thoughts were should I touch it or try to move it , what if it breaks? I moved the wheel and to my suprise I could steer the car. Finally I turned the car on, put it into gear, and moved the wheel and screamed "take me home", and much to my suprise it listened.
Of course you can listen to CD audio (with xmms version 1.2.8 for digital extraction), burn DVDs (cdrecord, k3b...), and whatever you want to do. It's just Linux is not an OS for dumb people... You have to tune it until it gets as you want. Not in windows you can do that!!!.
For the problem of audio, make sure you don't have the master level muted. It often happens that it is muted, so just take a glance at that.
And if you have any problem (like we all have), you've got this amazing forum, where sure you'll find someone that will help you through Linux (like they did for me and i've done for others).
If you want another OS just like Window$, definetly, Linux is not for you. If you want an OS where you can have exactely what you want, better performance and less consumption, Linux is perfect, but you have to work on it. I've been in Linux since 2 years, and I'm still learning a lot of things, improving my OS every new day, and i can forget about windows, cause i don't need it anymore.
Hope all this posts make you recosider the first impression (although in 2 hours you cannot see a shit).
gee, after using linux for 2 hours you are not a pro, what a shock. but why do you blame the OS for user ignorance? do you blame a fighter jet and say a fighter jet "sucks" because you don't know how to fly it? that is a bit backwards, wouldn't you agree?
or do you just want answers to the questions you listed so you can use your computer? in that case, wouldn't it make more sense to ask them in a direct and reasonable way, rather than in a roundabout way embedded in a rant? (or maybe you did just want to rant. in which case, have fun. )
As stated on top of the page, it's LinuxQUESTIONS.
Since you have no questions - only complaints - no one can help you and maybe you'd better stick to windows.

Cars are inherently difficult and only for technically inclined professional drivers. Next time just get on a Microsoft bus. The flexibility to go where you want when you want must be sacrificed for ease-of-use.

Ah the Microsoft bus, often affectionately referred to as the short bus. Those were the good ol' days, only it was late all the time, had a bad habit of breaking down in the middle of where I wanted to go, and I was constantly worried about my safety and secruity. Seemed I had to worry about getting mugged and having my wallet stolen everytime I got onboard.

If I had had your attitude 20 years ago I wouldn't
be working in IT today. Shame on you for blaming
your ignorance on Linux.
I can't help but wonder how people take threads like these seriously.
I mean c'mon...the username is "This Sucks" and on his FIRST POST he starts whining and insulting.
This is a troll....a very unskilled and obvious one. Don't fall for it...it just encourages whoever this is to come back, sign up again and do it again.

Not to mention... have you looked at the itinerary for the Microsoft Bus lately?
Their next few stops are "DRMville", "Port Longhorn" and "The City of You'll Upgrade Whenever We Damn Well Tell You To".
And once you get on that bus, they don't let you off, apparently. And even while you're already on it, they keep forcing you to buy a new ticket, even though you still haven't gotten to where you wanted to go.
The moral of the story: "Where do you want to go today?"
Wherever Microsoft drives you, that's where.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm glad I have my stripped-down, souped-up Porsche that says "Slackware" on it.
First post, clearly a troll or unless its someone who seeked help and just felt like wasting our database space with their so called original name which clearly displays their intelligience level.
Lets not feed the trolls as this has been reported to be closed at this time. You don't see disgruntled Linux users posting their "Windows Sucks, I'm going back to Linux" on Windows based forums..
I agree with Trickykid. If you really want help then please feel free to post genuine questions on the forum but if you are just here to get things of your chest then congratulations you've achieved it so please move on.
