host my own blog?

I have my own linux-based server and have (or could have) php and mysql installed. Would it be possible to host my own blog on my own server? I would like to have my own blog independent of tripod, google, or some other site that is not under my control. Not to mention, it would be free to me if I ran my own.

Thanks,

Sure. There are tons of applications out there for blogging. Depends on what you want. Do a google search.

Personally I use postnuke but they may be a little too robust for your needs if you just want a simple blog.

thanks for the suggestion. Any idea on what I should google? (a good search string) "blog" will just bring up a bunch of people's blogs. I'm not sure if blog program is the right thing either.

Thanks!

so I finally got post nuke working really awesome on my site. My question is this -> how do you use it to blog? Do you do news? do you do stories? Is there some other feature I haven't seen?

Thanks!

Hey- thats awesome you got it working! As far as using phpnuke goes,
why not drop by their site and surf their forums? I'm sure they are a lot
more knowledgeable. You'll find all your answers there quicker than you
will here

My question to you, DJOtaku.

Are you just having someone else do DNS? How are people accessing your site?

Yeah basically you add stories and they will apear on the front page of your site. Postnuke is extremly configurable so mess around with for a while.

I think you may find postnuke and the like a bit a bit much for just blogging, after all it is a content management system, try wordpress, that is a php app that is specifically designed for blogging
