That is a symptom of RehHat 9 for ordinary users opening gnome-terminal, too (but not root). Does it work if you log in as root? I gave up and downloaded Eterm per advice I found elsewhere on the internet. Do you get a prompt? You don't in RH9.
You mean I did something useful? I had joined this forum in an attempt to pay back for advice I found here, but I wasn't having much luck.
PS. I wasn't completely happy with Eterm, but I have the luxury of being able to log in as root. Everyone else logs in on a terminal emulator that doesn't have the problem. I never did try xterm or any of the others.
Hi, gernt, I have resolved this problem. You should config these settings when you config your kernel.
Device Drives-->Charactre Devices->Unix98 Pty support(this should be choosed to be compiled in the kernel)
FileSystems-->Pseudo->/dev/pts (this should be choosed to compiled in the kernel, too)
Have a try! In addition, I don't mean that, your information is so important to me, or I can't resolve this problem.Thank you!
I don't know. I probably will not recompile my kernel as I have a working configuration. But most people who buy RedHat 9 will encounter this problem, and some will want to reconfigure.
