HD access issues w/WinXP

Problem: I can't access my second 40GB Maxtor hard drive in Windows XP.

Info: My IDE devices are set up as follows
Primary Master-40GB Western Digital, Windows XP
Primary Slave-40GB Maxtor, Linux
Secondary Master-DVD-ROM
Secondary Slave-CD-RW
Problem drive-40GB Maxtor connected to a Promise Ultra100 TX2 ATA Controller Card

Any ideas?

Ask in a win XP forum

Does the drive and "Promise Ultra100 TX2 ATA Controller Card" show up in the device manager.

Yep. So does the 2nd Maxtor drive. No problems with it in the device manager. But the drive doesn't show up anywhere else.

Too bad WinXP doesn't come with devfs...

I'm heading off but I'll check back tomorrow.

Does the drive have a letter assigned to it in the device manager?

Nope, but none of the other drives do, either. Including the WinXP drive.

When you open the device manager and go to the properties -> Volumes tab, you need to hit the populate button to read the partition information. Try this for each drive.

I've fixed it. The problem was that WinXP won't access a HD that doesn't show up in the BIOS, so I switched it with my CDRW drive, and it showed up perfectly. Had to repartition & format it, but it works beautifully now. I'm currently in the process of moving & organizing my personal data so I can access it from either Linux or WinXP.

Thanks for the help!
