French Parliament Members adopt free software on their computers


Les ordinateurs des députés seront dorénavant installés avec des logiciels libres. source : Le Monde Nov 23, 2006

The French MPs' computers will be henceforth installed with free software.

They don't say whether they will run linux or not, but it's a breakthrough for free software in my country.

Indeed! I'd heard a few rumors about anti-opensource lobbying in france, so this is really great

I wish more governments would take action like this rather than just making statements or policies and not following them up.

They actually name Linux, OpenOffice.org and Firefox in the source document: http://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/pr...presse/m01.asp

That said, French MPs are about 550 or something, that isn't going to be a massive deployment
