In terms of family, how distant is too distant for you? For me I think it's about 2nd cousin. I don't really know anyone beyond that, though, apparently my great grandma knows her great grand children to the many'eth power. (great-great-great-great)
Since we are on that, what kind of relative do you know well that is the most distant?
I think it's more important to look at your association to them, rather than at the tree itself, unless you're actually working on a family history. If your father and his entire branch were ne'er-do-wells, and/or never aided in your upbringing, and/or mooched off others, would you care to call them family? Or would you concentrate on the folks who did raise and love you?
I know my 3rd cousin.
I've been told I'm a direct descendant of, or great (to the nth number) nephew of Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the USA. But that really doesn't mean too much to me, as I never knew him personally.

Yeah, tracing back family ancestors to me is just informative but doesn't matter to me. I've been told with proof actually that I'm related to Benjamin Franklin's older brother on my mothers side, my grandmothers maiden name is actually Franklin and on my dad's side, related to Henry Hudson as my grandmothers maiden name as Hudson.
I also started compiling and filling in a family tree at ancestry.com. Filled in going back to the 1600's on my mothers side, found out I'm related also to Thomas Paine, which links me to George W. Bush and also Hillary Clinton as they have a link to find out what famous people you are related to in some way or another.
Everyone can be linked to one another if you go so far back, I wouldn't doubt 1/3 of the U.S. are some type of cousin to one another.
Heh, I usually don't go past 1st cousin. I don't like most of my family, they annoy me for the most part..
Same here. The lifetime channel really molded their lives. -_- I hate that shit. They'll do lame stuff to get attention. Stuff like that among many other things. >_>

I once blocked my sister from emailing me cause she would forward every piece of junk email jokes she would get herself. Most of it she sent previously before or I'd already seen it several years before cause it's making its rounds on the net. I lifted the block from her after she promised to only email me original emails that she actually typed.
